One night I dreamed a dream…
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
But during the lowest times, there was only one.
I asked, “Lord, you said you would walk with me always…
Why did you leave me when I needed you most?”
The Lord replied, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you…
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you”.
This poem has been my favorite since I was little, I never really know why it was or really thought about it. I feel maybe it’s because when your younger and read something about someone always being there for you, it means so much. Now as I’m older and getting more into my faith and deepening my relationship with God, I really reflected on why do I love this poem this much. As I continue to read the poem, I sat and thought about it. Those simple words “I will never let go of your hand” are so powerful and make my eyes well up every time I read them or hear them. Knowing that He will always be by your side, never letting go no matter what we do. Even the simple words in the poem “It was then that I carried you,” hold so much weight. It is so amazing and comforting to know that at our lowest, darkest times in life we are never alone, we always have a hand to hold, someone to lift us up, to hold us. In the dark moments I have what helps me get to the other side of them, is remembering these simple words of “I will never let go of your hand,” and remembering I will be carried if I fall too hard or can’t do alone. It has truly helped me and I encourage you to do the same. It warms my heart knowing that no matter what we do in this life, we will always have a place at HOME and I truly wish I could live my life with that same forgiveness, kindness, and pure love. I am praying everyday to help me live my life through love and to focus more on the good in it and now dwell on the negative or hardships. Imagine if we all lived life through love, we are all God’s children, we were each fearfully and wonderfully made!
